SHORTS: Summer ‘21, is a collection of short comics dealing with themes of loneliness and imagination, as surreal characters demonstrate a  broad range of headspaces, literally and figuratively.

As we endure what feels like one increasingly disastrous global event after another, these comics tackle the jarring emotional experiences of our lifetime using metaphors and references to entertain and relate to.

Complex Dessert Zine is a project by the Glasgow School of Art’s MDes Illustration students who began their studies in 2020. In response to the lack of exhibition opportunities, or engagement with physical practices, communication or studio culture due to International and local lockdowns, the students devised a communication tool to bring their work together in a time of adversity.

Edited and produced by Sally Mairs, the zine printed and bound in collaboration with the GSA Case Room  and funded by the GSASA Student Initiated Project Funds, February 2021 and May 2021. Both issues of this publication feature the work of the following artists:

Diana Bechmann, Claude Foulquie, Jingchun Hu, Wimi Jung, Eva Kyrimi, Sally Mairs, Zhengping Shao, Kaoru Takemoto, Su Ying Wu, Qianwen Yang, and Xiaoxue Zhang.
